Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This policy explains the information involved in using Consumers Guidance, why it is processed, and the choices and rights available to you.

1. Who we are

Mani B.V. operates consumersguidance.com under the name Consumers Guidance, an independent, research-based product-comparison website for consumers in the United States. We are based in the Netherlands. We are not Amazon, a retailer, or a product manufacturer.

Consumers Guidance is responsible for the personal information processed for this website. You can contact us about privacy or exercise your rights by writing to:

Mani B.V.
Arnhemseweg 2
3817 CH Amersfoort
The Netherlands

This policy covers our website, not the websites of retailers you visit through our links.

2. Information processed when you visit

  • Technical information: delivering and protecting a website involves processing information such as your IP address, browser and device type, requested page, request time, and error details through hosting and infrastructure services.
  • Information you provide: if you write to us, we receive the contact details and message you choose to include. Please do not send payment card details, passwords, or sensitive health information.
  • Link interaction information: a retailer-button click creates an event in your browser containing the product name, rank, comparison identifier, and button position. This event does not include your name or email address. Our current site does not load Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager to send these events to Google.

Our public comparison website has no customer accounts, newsletter signup, or checkout. We do not collect payment details or receive your retailer order through this website.

3. Purposes and legal bases

As an operator established in the Netherlands, we apply the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to our processing of personal information.

  • Website delivery, reliability, security, and troubleshooting: our legitimate interests in providing a functioning and secure editorial website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We balance these interests against your privacy rights.
  • Responding to correspondence and correction requests: our legitimate interest in communicating with readers (Article 6(1)(f)); where a request concerns a contract, steps at your request or performance of that contract (Article 6(1)(b)).
  • Responding to valid legal requests and keeping records required by law: compliance with legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)).

Microsoft Advertising measurement is enabled only for visitors identified as being in the United States who have not opted out. We use it to understand advertising performance and page visits, based on our legitimate interests where permitted. It is not activated for other or unresolved locations, including locations requiring consent. We do not show a consent banner or infer consent from continued browsing.

4. Affiliate links and retailer websites

We earn money through affiliate links to Amazon and other retailers, including official product stores. Links contain affiliate identifiers so a retailer or affiliate program can attribute a qualifying purchase. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

After you follow a link, the retailer or affiliate service may process your IP address, referring page, browser information, and purchase activity, and may use cookies or similar technology under its own policy. Ordinary link navigation may send a referring website address according to your browser settings. We do not control those third-party practices.

Read the retailer’s privacy notice before providing personal information. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains our commercial relationships.

5. Services used to operate the website

  • Lovable and its hosting infrastructure: website hosting, delivery of hosted images, security, and error diagnostics. Requests and diagnostics may contain technical information described above. These services support our legitimate interests in operating the site.
  • Lovable Cloud, backed by Supabase: stores cached product information such as product identifiers, image addresses, prices, and refresh timestamps. This product cache is not a reader profile or an order database.
  • Google Fonts: our pages request the Inter font from Google’s font servers. Google receives request information, including your IP address and browser information, to serve the font. This is separate from Google Analytics or advertising. See Google Fonts privacy information.
  • Amazon Product Advertising API: our integration is designed to request product information using product identifiers, not reader names or emails. It is inactive when the required credentials are absent. If enabled, Amazon-hosted product images may also receive ordinary image request information from your browser.
  • Microsoft Advertising (Bing), Universal Event Tracking (UET): eligible visits send page-view and technical information to Microsoft, including page address, referring address, IP address, browser/device information, advertising click identifiers, and cookie identifiers. Eligible clicks to Solana Gear also send an outbound_click event with the current page slug for advertising measurement. This measures a retailer visit, not a confirmed purchase. Microsoft uses this information for advertising measurement and attribution and may use it for advertising personalization under its own policies. We do not add email/phone matching or retailer-purchase reporting. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Service providers may process information on our behalf or, for their own services, as independent controllers. We may also disclose information where required by law or necessary to protect legal rights. We do not operate a data-broker business or intentionally sell reader contact details.

6. Cookies, browser storage, and tracking

Microsoft UET may use advertising cookies and identifiers on eligible US visits. The tag is blocked before loading for visitors outside the United States, when location cannot be established, or when a privacy opt-out is detected. There is no cookie banner. On eligible visits, an msclkid advertising click identifier from the page URL is saved in localStorage for up to 90 days from that ad visit; a new ad click replaces it. Expired identifiers are removed on a subsequent visit or use. Solana Gear links include the saved identifier as sub1, when available, and the page slug as sub2, so Solana Gear and its affiliate program can attribute activity. We do not add these parameters to Amazon links. Privacy opt-outs also remove the saved identifier and block these additions and Microsoft outbound-click reporting.

Hosting or security services may use technology necessary to provide and protect the service. Retailers reached through our links have their own cookies and tracking practices. You can manage cookies and browser storage through your browser settings; restrictions can affect third-party websites.

We honor Global Privacy Control, browser Do Not Track, previously stored cookie refusals, and the opt-out below by blocking Microsoft UET. Opting out is saved in this browser with a timestamp and notice version, applies to other open tabs, and remains in effect on later visits. If tracking has already loaded, the page reloads to stop it. This does not delete information previously sent to Microsoft or cookies already set; you can delete those in your browser and use Microsoft’s privacy controls. Clearing browser storage removes this saved choice unless a browser privacy signal remains enabled.

7. Retention and security

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purpose for which it is processed, including responding to correspondence, investigating security issues, and meeting legal obligations. Correspondence is assessed according to whether the matter remains open or a record is needed for a legal claim. Infrastructure log retention is governed by the relevant provider’s configuration and contractual terms; we do not represent that all providers use the same fixed period.

Retailer-click events held in page memory disappear when that page context ends. Cached Amazon product information is only eligible for display when it is less than 24 hours old; this freshness rule is not a deletion schedule for personal information.

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no website or method of transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.

8. International processing

We are established in the Netherlands, while our audience and some service providers are in other countries. Website delivery, font requests, and retailer visits may involve processing outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States.

Where we arrange a transfer covered by the GDPR, an appropriate legal transfer mechanism is required, such as an applicable adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses with any necessary supplementary safeguards. You may request information about safeguards applicable to our processing at the address above. This notice does not claim that a particular provider certification or hosting region has been independently verified.

9. Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law and exceptions, you can request access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction, and portability. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.

Send your request to the address in section 1 and provide enough information to identify the request. We may need proportionate identity verification, but please do not send identity documents unless requested. GDPR requests are normally answered within one month; a permitted extension will be explained.

You may complain to the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or another competent supervisory authority.

US state privacy rights depend on your location and whether the relevant law applies to our business. Where applicable, these may include access, correction, deletion, portability, opt-out of sale or sharing or targeted advertising, and an appeal of a denied request. We will assess requests under applicable law without unlawful discrimination. We do not claim that every state’s business thresholds are met.

10. Children’s privacy

Our site is intended for adults making consumer purchasing decisions, not children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. Material changes will be communicated as required by law. A policy update does not replace any consent that the law requires.

For the rules governing use of our editorial content, read our Terms of Use.
